Junior Olympic Development Camps
In partnership with USA Shooting, the Halter Center hosts Junior Olympic Development Camps each summer for high-level shotgun competitors between the ages of 12 and 20.
USA High School Clay Target League
The High School Clay Target League offers students in grades 6 through 12 the opportunity to learn safety and marksmanship.
Liberty and Learning Youth Conference
After learning about our country’s foundations, students receive firearms safety instruction and then practice the fundamentals of shotgun, air rifle, and archery.
Junior Olympic Development Camps
In partnership with USA Shooting, the Halter Center hosts Junior Olympic Development Camps each summer for high-level shotgun competitors between the ages of 12 and 20. Attendees choose between the two Olympic shotgun disciplines for their area of focus: International Skeet or International Trap. Junior Olympic Development Camps aim to improve shooters’ skills over the course of six days through guided instruction from current and former USA Shooting Olympians and National Team members. Sessions include individual and small group coaching with Olympic shooters, a presentation on the U.S. Constitution from Hillsdale College faculty, a sports Psychology session with USA Shooting trainers, and shooting competition.
USA High School Clay Target League
The High School Clay Target League offers students in grades 6 through 12 the opportunity to learn safety and marksmanship and compete against others schools in a fun atmosphere. Teams from Hillsdale and Branch County schools meet at the Halter Center weekly during the spring and fall.
Liberty and Learning Youth Conference
This program, offered two times each summer, brings rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to Hillsdale’s campus for four days of study, camaraderie, and hands-on experience at the range. Students attend lectures given by Hillsdale College professors on the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, free-market economics, and the connection between the liberal arts and freedom. After learning about our country’s foundations, students receive firearms safety instruction and then practice the fundamentals of shotgun, air rifle, and archery. They also have the option of entering a Constitution essay contest for a chance at winning a $3,000 renewable scholarship to Hillsdale College.
Junior Olympic Development Camps
All-inclusive camps include:
- Transportation to and from Detroit Metropolitan Airport provided by Hillsdale College shuttle service
- Housing on the Hillsdale College campus (includes bed linens, blankets, pillows, towels, soap, and shampoo)
- All meals
- Local transportation between the main campus and the Halter Center
- Small group coaching
- Clay targets and ammunition, but you must bring your own firearm(s)
- Evening activities on the Hillsdale College campus, including a presentation(s) on Constitutional education from Hillsdale faculty.
