The Halter Center offers something truly unique—an unrivaled shooting sports facility that connects instruction in marksmanship with the teaching of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the liberal arts, and the American founding. Every class, every camp, and every event at the Center emphasizes this connection, making Hillsdale the only college in America that offers a philosophical, scholastic, and historical approach to the shooting sports.
Pursuing Truth and Defending Liberty Since 1844
Hillsdale does not accept federal or state taxpayer funding for any purpose, including student financial aid. Abiding by the motto, “Pursuing Truth and Defending Liberty Since 1844,” the College upholds its independence with the help of private funding—gifts, pledges, planned gifts, and grants—that provides gift income to meet annual expenses not covered by tuition revenues and endowment earnings.

The Full-service Home of All USA Shooting National Teams
In order to provide comprehensive shooting sports offerings and to be the full-service home of all the USA Shooting National Teams, Hillsdale College is completing the following facilities as funding is received:
- Four additional cottages
- An International indoor 25-meter archery range, which will also contain a 10-meter Olympic air pistol/rifle range and an outdoor 50-meter rifle and pistol range
